I was writing this for my Dad to start off, but I thought you'd all like a read, so...
Yeah, Louise, the girl who's house we're renting, has been this enduring presence since we arrived, having taken us to get our health cards, to visit the hospital, to the house twice, and to Wal-Mart. she's really nice (as most of the people here are) and all, but Mel thinks she's a know-it-all (she is a bit you know), and when we were invited out for dinner, we had to decline.
the Salvation Army gives stuff away! but they've got no stuff, cos they gave it away. so we have a big online community (strange, cos we've got a small actual community) where second hand stuff is privately bought and sold. we're looking at some of it, and trying to pick out the good bits and the not-too-dear bits, all the while comparing prices with the big stores (Wal-Mart, the Brick, Zellers and Home Depot, among others). We're also looking for second hand or thrift stores, but there seems to be only one who still has stock!
I went into work to see what I'd be doing, and it's not what I expected. I'm still looking forward to it, tho. I wish that we'd gotten moved in before i had to start, but sometimes you've just got to play the cards you're dealt.
The snow is really piling up, there's a storm today, but until today the weather has held for us. it's been cold, but not intolerably so. -2 one day, and -16 the next. it's supposed to heat up this week, reaching 8 (0 with the wind chill) but i wouldn't hold my breath. the piles of snow at the side of the road are as tall as me or chris, and some of them do reach Mel's height!
Taxis are fixed rate, $7 inside the city (which can be as far as 10 miles i suppose). $17 to and from the airport. some people say that cars are too expensive to run inside the city, and there are buses, but we've not been on one yet.
Oh! Dad, you can pass it on to Flemmo if you want.

bit of bad news about the house - but no disaster!! .... hotel for a week or so then move in ... nae probs. Am sitting with stinkng cold on the couch - and e've not had temperatures anywhere *near* as cold!! Blow up beds will be ok to start if can't get second hand ones - that one you slept in in my house is a blow up - cost £150 ..... so probably around the same in canadian dollars?? bit cheaper than proper bed - n just as comfy (tho wudn't put M&D in one - they'd roll out :D
Cheryl has ordered bridesmaids dresses for all of us - not peachy froo froo as I worried - but quite elegant deep red (like deep red roses!) ... quite pretty will send pics if i get one :D ....... Glad all is going nearly well .... good to know a know it all .... if she does :D - but at least she's giving you a hand up :P So when will Chris stop being on holiday do you think? When he starts school or when he realises he won't see granny for a while?? Hope you are all keeping well - must get time zones sorted so can have a chat at some point. nice to hear from you take care - hope all he family is well xx lovesya xx

I know that you'll look wonderful in deep red. You always loved it.
I've not seen those blow up beds out here, but now that you mention it, I'll have a look.
I think that it's beginning to sink in with Chris, cos he's getting restless, and with no PC, no consoles and no outside (noway is he going out in that!), he's really bored.
4 hours difference. we found out that Toronto is in a different timezone to us, as we were watching out for tv programmes at the wrong time.
When we get into the house, I might be offline for a while while I get cable and internet sorted, and a PC.

Oh dear - yeah well, that *will* casue some problems - Chris with no console!! - you'll have to swaddle him up and send him out :D or you'll *all* go stir crazy!! :D
I'm sure I'll live - for a wee while :P while you get everything sorted .. you just hav to do what you can - its really expensive setting up home from scratch :( so you just have to make do and mend for the first wee whiley :( ...... if I cud send you the bed - you know i wud - but different leccy needs :( ... beside I'll need it at easter - billy and betty coming up to stay :O - i'll let you know how that goes!

ok, I'm not yet that well set up for messenger, but I'll add you (don't msg me at work tho) mel&chris are fine, the bumps getting bigger, but I can't feel he(r) move yet.
Dad's fine, he had an op to stretch his tendons in his hand, cos they were tightening.
